433,038. Screw sockets. HAMILL, W. W., Beechcroft, Four Oaks Road, Four Oaks, Warwickshire. Dec. 8, 1933, Nos. 34529/33, 15588/34, and 28629 /34. [Class 89 (i)] Relates to arrangements for attaching objects to walls or in which a bolt to which the object is secured is surrounded by an expansible member which by axial compression is caused to expand peripherally to grip a cavity in the wall &c. According to the invention rubber or other material having like characteristics is employed as the elastic member. The bolt 53, Fig. 1, provided with the wedge-shaped end abutment 9 is surrounded by the rubber sleeve 3 which is axially compressed by axial displacement of the splined wedge to cause the rubber to grip the wall of the cavity. The resulting pressure on the walls of the cavity may be localized or varied by a variation of the shape of the abutment faces of the wedges and rubber sleeve or by arranging rubber rings of varying degrees of hardness on the bolt. Arrangements may also be made for reducing friction between the wedge and the actuating-nut by suitably shaping the abutting faces. In another form the rubber member 39, Fig. 13, is contained in a metal cage 32 and is expanded by the wedge 20 operated by the screw 41. The whole device may be embedded in rubber for insulating purposes. The rubber sleeve may have a non- circular periphery and may have a corrugated or otherwise roughened exterior. Specification 412,631 is referred to. |
