PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dehydration catalyst capable of selectively converting aliphatic unsaturated alcohol into conjugated diene.SOLUTION: A dehydration catalyst according to one embodiment of the present invention includes silica alumina. The silica alumina has 18 or smaller silica-alumina ratio. A ratio of silicon atoms Qwhich are not bonded directly to a hydroxy group to all of silicon atoms contained in the silica alumina is 80 mol% or higher. The silica alumina has acid sites. When the number of all of acid sites per unit mass of the silica alumina is defined as Nand that of weak acid sites per unit mass of the silica alumina is defined as n, n/Nis 0.78 or higher. The dehydration catalyst causes α,&bgr;-aliphatic unsaturated alcohol of carbon number of 4 or more to be dehydrated to produce conjugated diene. |
