CONTINUOUS STRIP CASTING APPARATUS COMPRISING A FORM ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM AND CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD

First apparatus comprises opposing cooling means (42 & 44, Fig 3), a molten metal feed system positionable to provide a molten metal feed for solidification between the opposing cooling means to form a metal strip and at least one dam 60 for determining the cross section of the molten metal fed to the opposing cooling means and thus the cross section of the metal strip. The dam 60 is moveable during operation of the apparatus and thus the width of the metal strip can be varied along its length. The apparatus further comprises a molten metal pressure control system by which the pressure of the molten metal in the molten metal feed is controlled in coordination with movement of the dam. Second apparatus comprises opposing cooling means; a molten metal feed system positionable to provide a molten metal feed for solidification between the opposing cooling means to form a metal strip and at least one diverter for parting the molten metal laterally to form a strip which has at least one hole in it.
