[Class 39 (i)] In a vapour-filled discharge tube one or more heating resistances are arranged inside a channel which is formed, in part at least, of the material of the envelope and extends the whole, or the greater part, of the length of the envelope. A luminous discharge tube, provided with a filling of rare gases and mercury or sodium, has its envelope formed with a channel 9 which houses resistances 10, 11 connected to terminals 15 and-the electrodes 7. The tube is supported through caps 18 of porcelain or the material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Bakelite." In another form, the channel is formed by a depression which extends the length of envelope and is closed by insulating material.
