A genetically engineered bacteria cell having an enhanced ability to produce an organic acid, wherein the genetically engineered bacteria cell comprises a genetic modification that increases the activity of GlnK; GlnD or combination thereof, as compared to a parent cell, and wherein the genetically engineered bacteria cell exhibits increased organic acid production compared to a parent cell;
wherein the genetic modification that increases the activity of GlnK, GlnD, or a combination thereof comprises an increase in the copy number of a nucleic acid encoding GlnK, GlnD, or combination thereof, or a modification of an expression regulatory sequence of a nucleic acid encoding GlnK, GlnD, or combination thereof; wherein the organic acid is succinic acid; and wherein the genetically engineered bacteria cell comprises deletion or disruption of an L-lactate dehydrogenase gene, a pyruvate oxidase gene, a phosphotransacetylase gene, an acetate kinase gene, an acetate CoA transferase gene, or a combination thereof. |
