The charging station comprises at least one receptacle for receiving at least one rechargeable battery-operated device to be charged, a payment module for processing a payment for allowing one or more of the at least one rechargeable battery-operated device to be charged for a period of time and a charging module for charging the one or more of the at least one rechargeable battery-operated device within the at least one receptacle, in accordance with the processed payment, the charging module receiving electrical power from a local power generator. The method comprises receiving the rechargeable battery-operated device for connection into the receptacle, processing a payment for allowing the rechargeable battery-operated device to be charged for a period of time and charging the rechargeable battery-operated device within the receptacle, in accordance with the processed payment.

1. A charging station comprising:
at least one receptacle for receiving one or more of a plurality of rechargeable power pack devices rechargeable at the charging station, each of the power pack devices being a portable power source usable in a home; a payment module for processing a payment for allowing one of the plurality of power pack devices to be charged for a period of time in one of the at least one receptacle; and a charging module for charging the one or more of the power pack device within the one receptacle, in accordance with the processed payment, the charging module receiving electrical power from a local solar power generator.
