Solutions of chlorinated rubber are obtained by using as solvent a volatile mixture of aliphatic and/or hydroaromatic hydrocarbons with ketones and/or esters of organic acids. The chlorinated rubber may have a chlorine content of 54 to 68 per cent; suitable esters are methyl, ethyl, butyl and amyl acetates; suitable ketones are acetone and methyl-ethyl ketones. Fillers, pigments and softening agents may be added to the solutions. The hydrocarbons may be in excess compared with the esters and/or ketones. Compositions according to the examples contain, in addition to chlorinated rubber, (1) dibutyl phthalate, aliphatic benzines, ethyl and butyl acetates, pigments, (2) a compound of sulphur with toluene or xylene, aliphatic benzines, acetone, butyl acetate, titanium dioxide, (3) wood oil, lacquer benzine, methyl ethyl ketone, cobalt naphthenate, (4) linseed oil varnish, aliphatic benzines, amyl acetate, acetone, a titanium hydroxide-chromic hydroxide mixture, (5) linseed oil-stand oil, lacquer benzine, hexahydrotoluene, isopropyl acetate, zinc white and a blue dyestuff, (6) a linseed oil-wood oil mixture containing lead-cobalt naphthenate, lacquer benzine, aliphatic benzines, acetone, n-butyl acetate, iron oxide red, (7) olive oil, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, aliphatic benzines and lacquer benzine.ALSO:Solutions of chlorinated rubber are obtained by using as solvent a volatile mixture of aliphatic and/or hydroaromatic hydrocarbons with ketones and/or esters of organic acids.
