A terminal device should communicate with a control device via a relay device. If unconnected to a relay device, a communications unit 70 sends a first signal for searching for a connectable relay device. A control unit 74 controls the operation of the communications unit 70. The communications unit 70 intercepts a second signal sent from the relay device to the control device and indicating that the connection between the relay device and the control device will be disconnected. The control unit 74 causes the communications unit 70 to stop transmission of the first signal if the communications unit 70 has intercepted a second signal.
