摘要 A reconfigurable touch screen computing device with folding configurations and an alignment locking mechanism. The touch screen display is made up of segments coupled to a flexible circuit and can be reconfigured from a compact state to an expanded state. The form factor of the compact state is roughly the size of a typical handheld phone, with an integrated speaker and microphone. The form factor of the expanded state is roughly the size of a tablet computer which may also include the mechanical functionality of a laptop. Both states provide a configuration which includes a touch screen display on a front side and a protective housing on a back side. The computing device may further include sensors to indicate the state of configuration. In one embodiment, a module attached to, situated within, or otherwise associated with at least one segment may contain all or substantially all processing and memory, along with a communications system, all of which may be used in either state.

A display apparatus comprising: a plurality of touch-sensitive display segments, wherein said plurality of display segments comprise at least one principal display segment and at least one auxiliary display segment, said auxiliary display segment having a folded state and an expanded state; at least one switch, said switch having a first position corresponding to a folded state of the auxiliary display segment and a second position corresponding to an expanded state of the auxiliary display segment; a processor configured to: obtain an image to be displayed, anddisplay the image based on the position of the switch, wherein in the first position, the processor is to display the image substantially on the principal display segment, and in the second position, the processor is to display the image on the principal display segment and the auxiliary display segment; and a rotating alignment locking mechanism, wherein said rotating alignment locking mechanism affixes the auxiliary display segment to the principal display segment and is co-planar therewith in the expanded state, and wherein said alignment locking mechanism allows for loosening the auxiliary display segment from the principal display segment in the folded state.
