The present invention provides a method of treating cancer with a proteasome inhibitor. The invention provides a method for treating a patient with a proteasome inhibitor based on measurements of tumor features using biomedical imaging techniques. The invention also provides a method of treating a patient with cancer based on levels of GLUT4, as measured by a biomedical imaging technique. The invention also provides a method of treating a cancer patient with a proteasome inhibitor based on the effect of the treatment on tumor features measured by a biomedical imaging technique. |

1. A method of treating a patient having cancer, comprising the steps of
a) measuring a quantity of the cancer by a biomedical imaging technique; b) administering a therapeutically effective amount of amount of the compound of formula (I): or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or a pharmaceutical composition or a boronic acid anhydride thereof, wherein: Z1 and Z2 are each independently hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, or aralkoxy; or Z1 and Z2 together form a moiety derived from a boronic acid complexing agent; to the patient; c) repeating the biomedical imaging measurement of the quantity; and d) proceeding with a treatment option selected from the group consisting of:
i) continuing to treat the cancer with the same dose of the compound if the quantity in c) is lower than in a);ii) treating the cancer with a higher dose of the compound if the quantity in c) is not lower than in a); andiii) continuing to treat the cancer with the same dose of the compound and a therapeutically effective amount of a second compound if the quantity in c) is not lower than in a). |
