The purpose of the present invention is to provide a magnetic detector that can be made not only smaller and thinner, but also more accurate. This magnetic detector (1) comprises: a substrate (S1); an MI element disposed on the substrate, said MI element having a magnetosensitive wire (W1) that is induced by an external magnetic field component oriented in the extension direction, and a detection coil (C1) that is provided around the magnetosensitive wire; and a magnetic-field-direction-changing element (F1) for changing the direction of the external magnetic field around the magnetosensitive wire. The magnetic-field-direction-changing element according to the present invention has a core (F10) comprising a non-magnetic member, and a cover (F11) comprising a soft magnetic member for covering the outside of at least some of the core. Thus, the magnetic-field-direction-changing element is a hollow structure rather than a solidly structured soft magnetic member. Therefore, the volume of the soft magnetic member is markedly lower than in the prior art, and the hysteresis generated in the magnetic-field-direction-changing element is also markedly reduced. Magnetic field components oriented orthogonally with respect to the substrate can accordingly be detected with greater accuracy by this magnetic detector. |
