Examples of methods and a system for implementing automated document search are described. In one example, a search module is arranged to receive a search query. The search module establishes the relevance to the search query of a set of documents held in a repository,the documents being subject to an access control policy. An access control module provides the searcher with content to access any document for which the searcher has access permission according to the access control policy and provides the searcher with content to request access to any document for which the searcher does not have access permission.
