A wireless communication device according to the present invention is, for example, a wireless base station 1 which transmits data in a spatial multiplexing transmission scheme, and which is provided with a plurality of array antennae 15, and a beam-shape control unit 114 that repeatedly executes a process of: controlling the plurality of array antennae 15 in such a way that each of the array antennae 15 forms a beam in a different shape and transmits a signal for communication quality measurement within a range that should be covered by the device; determining the initial value of the beam shape applied for a data transmission to a counterpart device on the basis of the communication quality measured for each beam by the counterpart device that has received the signal for communication quality measurement; controlling the array antenna 15 so as to tentatively change the beam shape presently applied for the data transmission to the counterpart device after the initial value is determined; and determining again the beam shape applied for the data transmission to the counterpart device on the basis of the communication quality when the beam shape having undergone the tentative change is applied, and the communication quality when the beam shape prior to the tentative change is applied.
