摘要 [Problem] To provide a silicon nitride-based sintered object having improved fracture resistance and a cutting tool. [Solution] A silicon nitride-based sintered object (1) that comprises silicon nitride as the main component and that, in analysis by Raman spectrometry, gives a chart wherein when the intensity of an Si peak appearing at 521±10 cm-1 is expressed by H1, the intensity of a silicon nitride peak appearing at 206±10 cm-1 is expressed by H2, and the ratio between the peak intensities, H1/H2, is expressed by P, then there is a surface layer region (3) which includes the surface (4) and in which the value of P (Ps) is smaller than the value of P (Pi) in an inner part (2), and wherein the position of the Si peak in the inner part (2) has shifted to the larger-angle side from that in the surface layer region (3).
