PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce unnaturalness of an image quality change when a normal imaging mode and a gradation expression range expansion imaging mode are switched.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes: imaging means (303) which photoelectrically converts subject light via an imaging optical system and generates an image signal; exposure control means (109) which controls an exposure value of the imaging means; image synthesizing means (104, 105 and 106) which synthesize a plurality of image signals obtained by imaging by the imaging means with a plurality of different exposure values determined by the exposure control means, and generate a synthesized image signal whose gradation expression range is expanded; and imaging mode switching means (103) which changes over a normal imaging mode for performing normal moving image imaging and a gradation expression range expansion imaging mode for generating the synthesized image signal. When the imaging mode switching means changes over the imaging mode, the image synthesizing means stepwise changes gradation expression width of the synthesized image signal in accordance with the exposure value determined by the exposure control means for generating the synthesized image signal. |
