443,420. Preventing corrosion. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES., Frankforton-Main, Germany. Oct. 4, 1935, No. 27476. Convention date, March 1. [Class 123 (i)] Corrosion of magnesium or magnesium alloy by liquids containing fluorides, e.g. water or polyvalent alcohols for cooling internal-combustion engines, is prevented by ensuring that the pH value of the liquid is numerically not below 8, and preferably between 8 and 10. This may be effected by adding sodium carbonate or caustic soda, or in particular cases a strongly alkaline water may be sufficient.
