Vulcanized rubber is plasticized for re-use by mixing a derivative of guanidine, e.g. diphenyl-guanidine, with the rubber, heating the mixture to bring it into a condition to be worked, and working it into a plastic homogeneous mass. To secure intimate mixing the rubber is preferably first finely divided. The quantity of diphenyl-guanidine added is from one to five per cent. To heat the mixture, it may be placed in an autoclave and subjected to steam pressure of 60 lbs. per sq. in. Sulphur and fillers may be added and the compounded rubber vulcanized. Specification 430,156 is referred to.
|
