Layers f finely porous rubber are made by spreading an artificial or natural dispersion of rubber, guttapercha, balata, &c. on a fabric or other backing surface having numerous fine perforations, and blowing therethrough a coagulating gas, such as air charged with acetic acid vapour. The sheet may then be vulcanized. The backing surface may be treated to facilitate stripping of the sheet, and the rubber dispersion may contain substances to make the product water-repellent, e.g. paraffins, esters, fatty acids, alcohols, zinc or magnesium stearate, chlorinated compounds. The dispersions used may be those described in Specification 219,635 or 290,313, [both in Class 70], or may be prepared from coagulated or vulcanized rubber, waste or reclaim.
|
