A system for controlling a stock of containers containing blood or a blood product to be provided to a patient, comprises a container label comprising data relating to one or more of: the product; the patient; and a user of the system; a user identification label comprising data that identifies the user and enables access to the system; a refrigerator configured to hold the stock; a computer database comprising data relating to the stock; the patient and the user; and the refrigerator; a control unit 20 comprising a user interface 22; and, optionally, a patient identification label. The system permits addition or removal of the stock of the product into and out of the refrigerator provided that a predetermined correspondence is met between data held on the computer database and the container label data, the user identification label data or the optional patient identification label data. The refrigerator may comprise a remote controlled lock with manual override and labels may comprise bar-codes or RFID tags. The control may include an audio system to provide voice guidance and may further comprise a weighing device and infra red thermometer. |
