An image pickup apparatus, comprising: (A) a first pixel region including (1) a first lens,(2) a first light receiving area configured to receive light through the first lens,(3) a second light receiving area configured to receive light through the first lens, and(4) an insulating area disposed between the first light receiving area and the second light receiving area; (B) a second pixel region including (1) a second lens, and(2) a third light receiving area configured to receive light through the second lens; and (C) a signal processing unit configured to (1) generate a first data corresponding to an electric signal from the first light receiving element, and(2) generate a second data corresponding to an electric signal from the second light receiving element, wherein,an image interval is calculated based on the first data and the second data, andthe first and second light receiving area are asymmetrically positioned with respect to a center of the lens.
