Sinews and like animal materials are converted in a known manner, whilst maintaining the natural fibres thereof, into a highly swollen fibrous paste containing at least 75 per cent of non-expressible swelling water, the resulting fibrous paste is extruded under high pressure from nozzles of more than 0,5 mm. diameter and the threads issuing from the nozzles are first dried and then, if desired, treated with tanning or water-extracting agents. In an example, neat's sinews are swollen in milk of lime, then in hydrochloric acid, freed from part of the acid, shredded and kneaded. The highly swollen mass is extruded through nozzles, and the threads issuing are dried and further treated in a pickling bath and in a chrome bath. The products are used as substitutes for horsehair, or for brush or bristle material or the like. Specification 422,990, [Group IX], is referred to.
