To provide a movement direction determination method and device for appropriately informing a holder of a camera of the movement direction of the camera, in this movement direction determination method and movement direction determination device (100), a processor determines the movement direction of a camera which captures an image of a polygonal subject for recognition (120). The processor: acquires the orientation of the camera which sensors which the camera comprises have acquired; acquires the image of the subject for recognition (120) which the camera has captured; determines the number of corners of the subject for recognition which is contained in the image; and, on the basis of the orientation of the camera and the number of corners, determines the movement direction of the camera.
