Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for providing food information, which are capable of conveniently confirming food information such as the type of food that a user intends to consume, total calories, and proper intake calories. The apparatus for providing food information according to an embodiment comprises: a light spectrum obtaining unit for obtaining a light spectrum of a food to be consumed by a user; a depth image obtaining unit for obtaining a depth image of the food; and a controller for identifying the type of the food on the basis of the light spectrum of the food, wherein the controller sets a figure on the basis of the food area detected from the depth image of the food, and on the basis of the set figure, calculates at least one of volume, total calories and proper intake calories of the identified food. |
