Abstract There is provided an audio interrupter for the automated event based interruption of audio playout, the interrupter comprising: an interrupter interfacing an audio source and an audio output, the interrupter operable to interrupt the audio from the audio source to the audio output; a detector in operable communication with the interrupter, the detector configured for detecting an audio interruption event and wherein, in use: upon detection of the audio interruption event, the detector is configured for causing the interrupter to interrupt the audio between the audio source and the audio output.
