摘要 452,388. Gearing for conveying rotary motion. LAVINE GEAR CO., 634, East Keefe Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A. March 11, 1935, No. 7564. Convention date, March 24, 1934. [Class 80 (i)] In a steering-gear of the type in which a rotatable worm cam actuates through a cam follower a rock-shaft extending at a right angle thereto in a different plane, a slide block is interposed between the arm of the rock-shaft and the cam follower, said slide block being pivotally connected with the arm, the cam follower being provided with a guide groove having straight walls for the slide block which is provided with straight sides for engagement with the sides of the guide groove. A casing 6 with cover 7 has bearings for the worm 10 actuated by steering shaft 11, the worm imparting movement to a transverse rock-shaft 15 located in an extension 14. Another bearing is provided at 16, the space 17 between the bearings giving grease free access to the rock-shaft bearings which include needle rollers 18. The end of shaft 15 opposite the ball arm 21 is engaged by a thrust ball 23 adjustably carried by a screw 24 in cover 7. The thread of the worm is of uniform pitch and depth. The shaft 15 is rotated by an arm 20, the upper end of which is widened to provide a bearing surface for a block 28 which is adapted to slide on the back of a cam follower 35. The block is mounted on the arm by a pin 32. The follower 35 may have conventional threads and be positively guided or, as shown, has balls 40 seated in recesses, the balls being so spaced that the radial thrust of the worm is midway between the balls and at right angles to the bearing surface between the arm 20 and block 28.
