PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately identify a document area.SOLUTION: A multifunction machine includes a reading section and a CPU, and when setting a threshold used for identifying a document area where a document is read from a read image obtained by reading a read area including the document, stores a maximum luminance difference &Dgr;M from a read image obtained by reading a reference document and sets the maximum luminance difference &Dgr;M as the threshold. When storing the maximum luminance difference &Dgr;M from the read image obtained by reading the reference document, a luminance component Y is acquired for each of a plurality of pixel data included in the read image, a luminance difference &Dgr; is calculated from a difference in the luminance component Y per image data, and a maximum value of the absolute value thereof is stored as the maximum luminance difference &Dgr;M. |
