[Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In an electric torch or battery lamp of the kind wherein the bulb socket is slidable along the optical axis for focusing purposes the sliding movement is communicated to the bulb socket 18 from an external button 23, slidable longitudinally on the lamp casing, by means of lever mechanism which is so arranged that a given displacement of the button produces a smaller displacement of the bulb socket. The bulb socket 18 is slidable vertically within a sleeve 12 and is provided with two outwardly projecting pins 22 which engage within longitudinal guiding- slots in the sleeve and extend therethrough into an arcuate slot 16 in the adjacent arm of a two-armed lever or yoke 13 which is pivoted between lugs 11 on a metal base 10. The free ends of the lever arms are connected by a small crossbar 28 of fibre, which is provided with a central aperture to receive the end of the shank of the operating-button 23. The shank passes through a longitudinal slot in the casing and carries a brass sleeve 25 surrounded by a spring 26 which is held compressed by a cotter pin 27, whereby the button is clamped lightly to the casing. Connection to the centre contact 21 of the bulb is maintained by a flexible wire 20 soldered thereto. The bulb socket 18 also moves within a guide ring 6 carried by an inner metal cap 5 screwed into the top of the lamp casing, the central part of the cap 5 being dished to receive the lower part of the reflector 3 and an insulating sleeve for the guide ring 6. In the example, the invention is applied to a torch provided with an extensible casing and a regulating resistance as described in Specification 453,044. |
