<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selection device for a mechanical opening and closing body stop device for an opening and closing apparatus, which enables a device for constituting the mechanical opening and closing body stop device to be properly selected in accordance with the amount of opening and closing movement of an opening and closing body. <P>SOLUTION: Data on a plurality of laying member connecting devices different in the amount of winding/unwinding of a laying member are stored in the storage section 181 of the selection device 180 for the mechanical opening and closing body stop device. When the amount of opening and closing movement of a shutter curtain as the opening and closing body is input by an input section 183 of the selection device 180, a computing section 182 of the selection device 180 performs computing for selecting the laying member connecting device having the amount of winding/unwinding of the laying member suitable for the shutter curtain, from the data stored in the storage section 181, on the basis of the amount of opening and closing movement, input by the input section 183.
