[Class 40 (ii)] Relates to apparatus for reproducing sound from an endless band of photographic film having a continuous sound track extending a number of times round the band parallel to the edges of the film, the record shifting at intervals from one track to the next, the tracks being successively traversed by the reproducing light beam which is shifted transversely of the film in order constantly to register with successive portions of the record. According to the invention, the film 9 passes at the control point around a drum 8 mounted on the cover 2 of a housing 1 and enclosing the photo-electric cell 13, the drum being provided with a groove 10 of a width equal to the width of the film. Raised guides 11 for the film are provided on both sides of the groove within which is arranged a vertical slit 12 having a width of about 0À02 mm. and a length equal to the useful width of the film. In front of the drum and on the opposite side of the film is located a mask 19 having an opening 20 located exactly opposite the slit 12, the diameter of this opening being substantially equal to the width of any one of the sound tracks on the film. The mask is carried by a frame 22 vertically movable along guides within the drum 8. The frame also carries a light source 24 and condenser lens 25, light from the source 24 being reflected through the opening 20 by a mirror 26 mounted on the mask. The lens 25 is preferably adapted to produce an image of the light source in the space between the slit 12 and cell 13. The film is withdrawn from the inside of a coil 4 and paid on to the outside thereof by the means described in Specification 453,889. Specification 453,890 also is referred to.</p> |
