PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy for determining a region where a character is shown in image data.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus comprises: an isolated point extraction unit 51 for extracting isolated points from image data; a size detection unit 53 for detecting a size of each of the plurality of isolated points extracted; and an inside-halftone isolated point determination unit 55. Each of the plurality of isolated points extracted becomes a target for processing with the inside-halftone isolated point determination unit 55, and on a condition that the number of isolated points positioned around a target isolated point is greater than or equal to a predetermined number, the inside-halftone isolated point determination unit 55 determines the target isolated point as an inside-halftone isolated point which is present in a halftone dot region where halftone dots are shown. The inside-halftone isolated point determination unit 55 includes a limit unit 61 which, when sizes of the target isolated points are greater than or equal to a predetermined size, limits targets of counting to isolated points which have a size determined on the basis of the sizes of the target isolated points. |
