[Class 144 (ii)] The main portion of the tread of a pneumatic tyre is composed of narrow, closely-spaced, radial ribs 12, of a depth which is great in relation to their width, and which extend substantially straight circumferentially and continuouslv around the tread, the ribs being adapted to deflect transversely into contact with each other under load. The ribs in the shoulder portions of the tread are of progressively lesser height towards the edges of the tread.
