PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission system capable of transmitting a large amount of data over a long distance without accumulation of phase noise resulting from non-linear effect of an optical fiber and waveform deterioration due to dispersion of the optical fiber.SOLUTION: Disclosed is an optical transmission system in which relay between a transmitting unit and a receiving unit is performed by a plurality of optical fibers and a plurality of optical amplification devices. An optical phase sensitive amplifier includes a means for generating the excitation light synchronized with the signal light, and signal light having the same phase component as the excitation light is selectively amplified and outputted. A product of group velocity dispersion D per unit length of the optical fiber in a relay zone and a length L of the optical fiber satisfies the relationship of formula 1. |
