发明名称 The manufacture of new fluorine compounds
摘要 Rubber and rubber-like bodies such as isoprene and butadiene polymers, and white or brown factis are treated with fluorine under such mild conditions that chemical combination occurs without combustion. The reaction may be effected or commenced in the presence of an indifferent substance or at a low temperature, e.g. below 0 DEG C. The fluorine may be diluted with, e.g. air, nitrogen or CO2, in proportions of 1--10 by volume per 1 volume of fluorine. Alternatively, the rubber is dissolved in, e.g. CCl4 and fluorine, which may be diluted, introduced. The products are used for rendering fluid-tight and insulating electrolytic cells for the production of fluorine. Alternatively, the desired parts of the cell may be provided with untreated rubber and the cell operated when the fluorine produced, which is diluted with the air present, reacts. When the electrolyte is molten potassium bifluoride, the fluorinated rubber stopper insulating the anode is water-cooled since a temperature of about 250 DEG C. is used. With polyfluorides, cooling is required only if the temperature is above the decomposition point of rubber. In the type of cell wherein the sides and bottom serve as cathode, passage of hydrogen evolved at the bottom through the diaphragm into the anode chamber is prevented by coating the bottom with fluorinated rubber. Rubber plates obtained by vulcanizing soft or hard rubber mixtures upon parts of the cell and treating with dilute fluorine can be used. Using fluorinated rubber packings and covers, apparatus used for electrolysis of water such as uni- or bi-polar cells or filter press apparatus can be used for the production of fluorine. Specification 21557/00, [Class 41], is referred to.ALSO:Rubber and rubber-like bodies are treated with fluorine under such mild conditions that chemical combination occurs without combustion.
