A flute inspection apparatus features a laser distance sensor measuring the approximate shape of the flutes, taking an average of eight or more height readings across the waveform of each flute. The sensor may be placed proximate a roller (46, fig.3), so that the sensor (44, fig.3) detects the fluting as the card is held stable, as it passes around the roller (46, fig.3). Also disclosed is a corresponding corrugator apparatus and method. The sensor may be connected to visual output and/or data storage devices. In this manner, flutes with undesirable variation in form can be detected, and the process of making the corrugated card, adjusted accordingly. |
