PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide techniques of increasing the capacity of a wideband code division multiple access wireless communications system.SOLUTION: Early termination 400 of one or more transport channels on a wideband code division multiple access wireless communications link is provided. In particular, early decoding 421 etc. is performed on slots as the slots are received over the air, and acknowledgment messages ACKs for one or more transport channels correctly decoded are signaled by 431, 432 to terminate the transmission of those transport channels. The techniques are applied to the transmission of voice signals using the adaptive multi-rate AMR codec, and reduce the transmission power and rate of power control commands sent over the air. Tail-biting convolutional codes are applied in the system. |
