A system and method for profiling of brainstem functioning of a subject, comprising an apparatus (1) for stimuli generation configured to generate sound stimuli. A communication element for communicating sound stimuli via a sound generating device to the subject. An apparatus (6) for analysis and storage of the subject's electrophysiological brain activity through elements attached to the subject. The sound stimuli having varied physical properties in frequency, time and amplitude and the sound stimuli are presented to the subject as a test battery. The test battery comprises at least a directional hearing test and/or a perception of distance in sounds test, wherein each test in the test battery comprises of presentation of stimuli to the subject and registration of the electrophysiological responses to the sound stimuli.
