471,538. Switch contacts. WEST & CO., Ltd., A., and BABLER, E. March 5, 1936, No. 6681. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXII] A switch contact comprises a body of a good conducting material such as silver or copper which is reinforced by thin laminations of a metal of higher melting point such as tungsten and similar metals, or nickel, iron or their alloys or of graphite silicon refractory materials. The laminations are placed parallel to the direction of the current and so do not greatly increase the contact resistance. The laminations may be preformed into a grid and immersed in the molten conductor metal, or sintered with the powdered conductor metal. Alternatively slots may be cut in the conductor metal and the laminations inserted and soldered in position. Or the contact may be made by winding a double spiral of ribbons of the two metals which are then compressed. |
