1. A non-recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain that produces an increase in biomass in the range of 2-fold to 49-fold when grown in 50 ml xylose minimal medium shaken at 220 rpm in a 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask at 30° C. for 48 hours, wherein the strain is inoculated into the xylose minimal media to an OD600nm of 0.1 to 0.2 after being grown for 72 hours at 30° C. on a Glucose Yeast Extract Bacteriological Peptone agar plate, and wherein the xylose minimal media is 5% xylose and 0.67% DIFCO Yeast Nitrogen base without amino acids in distilled water. |
