Disclosed is an isolated eukaryotic cell, comprising a magnetotactic bacterium in said eukaryotic cell. Further disclosed is a method of creating an artificial endosymbiont, comprising introducing a magnetotactic bacterium into an isolated eukaryotic host cell. Also disclosed is an isolated eukaryotic host cell, comprising an artificial endosymbiont in said host cell, wherein the eukaryotic cell is capable of undergoing at least five cell divisions and wherein the artificial endosymbiont is capable of being transferred to daughter cells of the eukaryotic cell through at least five cell divisions of the eukaryotic cell; and wherein the artificial endosymbiont belongs to the class alpha-Proteobacteria and wherein the eukaryotic host cell is a mammalian cell selected from the group consisting of human cancer cells, inducible pluripotent stem (IPS) cells, hematopoietic stem cells, neural stem cells, epidermal neural crest stem cells, mammary stem cells, intestinal stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, olfactory adult stem cells, testicular cells, and human cells found in the circulatory system. |
