A plurality of battens substantially as illustrated are attached to a building frame in a vertical configuration and spaced from each other to form vertically running cavities for drainage and ventilation between neighbouring battens, and a cladding is attached to the battens. Each of the battens includes multiple hollowness provided by a plurality of longitudinally extending enclosed passageways 3 between extruded internal walls 4, first and second generally planar parallel faces 1, 2, and first and second side regions 5, 6 linking each flank of the first and second faces. Each of the first and second side regions is provided with at least one outstand feature 8, 9 to discourage migration of water across the batten. |
