Biocompatible composite materials are provided, comprising a polymeric matrix formed from at least one biocompatible polymer, and particles of a glassy material dispersed throughout the polymeric matrix. Owing to their improved toughness, stiffness and strength characteristics, as well as their tuneable dissolution properties, the biocompatible composite materials may be advantageously used in the manufacture of various implantable medical devices, such as stents, pins, rods and suture. |
