The invention relates to a pneumatic tyre (1) comprising a carcass ply (2) connecting two beads (5) via two sidewalls (3), a crown reinforcing area (10) being mounted on said carcass ply (2) radially on the outside, which reinforcing area comprises a plurality of tapes (14) arranged in a single layer and oriented in a substantially circumferential direction and at an angle to the axial direction of greater than or equal to 5°, said tapes (14) being arranged such that they overlap by on average more than 20%, preferably more than 40%, and coated with an elastomer composition (13). The reinforcing tapes are made of a thermoplastic film having a modulus greater than 0.9 GPa, preferably more than 2 GPa, in the main direction and in the transverse direction.
