In a joint of the kind comprising a mass of rubber maintained in a state of initial deformation between two rigid members (for example, a rubber bush between concentric metal sleeves), the rubber is caused to adhere to one or each of the rigid members by the interposition of a layer of imperfectly-vulcanized rubber, which will become cemented to the mass of rubber by chemical action due to hysteretic heat or may be attached by a suitable adhesive. The layer of imperfectly-vulcanized rubber may be deposited on the rigid member electrolytically, in solution, or in a sheet, and may be secured by cement or by preliminary coating of the rigid member with brass; it may also be secured by hot vulcanization to a layer of ebonite, secured to the rigid member by grooves or the like, or of latex. The surface of the rigid member may be rough or smooth.
