The purpose of the present invention is to provide a method for assembling a projection lens in an oblique projection optical system that allows for efficient production even with the variations in the sizes of image display elements to be mounted, and a projection image display device using the method. The present invention relates to a method for assembling a projection lens in an oblique projection optical system for an oblique projection image display device that includes a spherical lens block and an aspherical lens block. The method for assembling the projection lens comprises: preparing spherical lens blocks adapted to different-sized image display elements that are incorporated in the projection image display device and a common aspherical lens block; and assembling projection lens by assembling the spherical lens blocks selected according to the size of the image display elements incorporated and the common aspherical lens block.
