[Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XVII] A machine for doubling and in some cases fastening the side flaps 5, Figs. 5, 7, 10, of a cardboard box-forming blank and folding them down on to the base panel 4 comprises a conveyer belt 2, Fig. 1, on which the blanks are held by rollers 6, Fig. 5, journalled in a bar 7 of inverted-U-section, which at one end is journalled on an axle 8 and at the other end loaded by a spring or weight 9, Fig. 1. The blanks are also held and guided by bars 10, 11, Figs. 1 and 5, and the folding is initiated by bars 12, all these bars being if desired, adjustable. Before leaving guides 12 the flaps 8 slide on to adjustable guide plates 13 which fold the doubled flaps about the line joining them to the case panel 4, as shown in Fig. 7. Pivoted folding plates 14, Fig. 10, are then actuated in conjunction with rotating arms 17 pivoted on axles 18 only one blank at a time being dealt with by plate 14 and arms 17. Plates 14 are actuated by forks 24 from cam 26, and the arms 17 are also suitably cam-actuated. |
