A component mount (40, 50 in Figures 3 & 5) is provided. The mount has two parallel compressible load paths 1, 2 interposed between first and second attachment members 3, 4 and a coupling mechanism 5. When a force above a predefined level is predicted to be transferred, the coupling mechanism 5 is engaged so that both of the compressible load paths 1, 2 act in parallel to transfer the force between the first and second attachment members 3, 4. When the predicted level of the force to be transferred is below the predefined level, the coupling mechanism 5 is disengaged and the force is transmitted through only the first compressible load path 1. Therefore the stiffness of the component mount 40, 50 is changed based upon whether a high or a low force has to be transmitted. |
