463,227. Lathe drivers. FORKARDT KOMMANDITGES., P. June 11, 1936, No. 16374. Convention date, June 11, 1935. [Class 83 (iii)] A lathe driver comprises opposed eccentric clamping dogs 2 which may be disengaged while the machine is running by externally applied force acting through lever mechanism. In one form, Fig. 2a, the body member 1 is fitted with a centre 3 and the clamping dogs are mounted on spindles 7 carrying lever arms 4 engaging a cam plate 11. The levers are urged by springs 8 to clamp the dogs onto the work and are moved against the springs to unclamp the work by axial movement of the plate 11. In a modification, Fig. 3, the levers 5 are moved against the clamping springs 9 by relative rotation of a central cam member 12 which is connected to a brake drum. In another modification the unclamping is effected by the overrunning of a flywheel member carrying a central actuator operating the clamping levers. In all cases a cover plate 16, Fig. 2a is arranged in front of the clamping dogs. and this plate carries interchangeable centring bushes 17 which have a slightly larger bore than the work diameter. |
