The present invention addresses the problem of providing an electrical contact material in which the oxide content can be increased, the manufacturing cost can be reduced, and exceptional levels of performance and workability as an electrical contact can be realized, and providing a method for manufacturing said material. The present invention is a method for manufacturing an electrical contact material characterized in including: a step for obtaining an alloy powder in which a gas that contains particles of an oxide of a metal other than Ag are atomized and rapidly solidified while being blown into molten Ag, and the oxide particles are finely dispersed, the oxide particles being controlled in said step so that the average particle diameter is 500 nm to 5 µm, and the mass ratio of the oxide particles in the gas to the total mass of the molten Ag and the oxide particles in the gas being controlled to 10-30% by mass; and a step for hot-extruding the alloy powder. |
