PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a granule processing unit which enables the relative position among granules such as catalysts statically accommodated in a container to be efficiently changed; and a granule processing method for processing granules in a container using the same.SOLUTION: The granule processing unit includes: a granule container which accommodates a granule layer in contact with the inner wall of the granule container; a retainer which has a ventilation path for a fluid to pass through and contacts with the granules to retain the granules; a drive mechanism which moves the granule retainer up and down for moving the granule layer up and down; and a cleaning tool loaded on the granule retainer, which is rotatable at the contact part and rolls to move a cleaner body extending in the ventilation path of the granule retainer when the granule retainer is moved up and down.
