PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a composite material, in each of which prepregs can be layered on each other without being meandered, even when the prepregs are layered on each other by using a long mold having a curved surface, on which surface the prepregs are layered, and in each of which the air between the adjacent prepreg layers can be withdrawn satisfactorily.SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing the composite material by layering sheet-shaped prepregs, each of which is obtained by impregnating a reinforcing fiber with a resin, on each other on the long mold includes: a prepreg supply mechanism; and an air release mechanism. The prepreg supply mechanism includes: a prepreg unwinding means; a position correcting means for correcting the position of the prepreg; and a means for making notches parallel to the direction of the fiber in the prepreg. The air release mechanism includes a means for withdrawing the air between the adjacent prepreg layers while forcing a pressing device to press the layered prepregs. The means for making notches in the prepreg includes a means for discontinuously making notches parallel to the direction of the fiber in the prepreg. |
